UK Cross Challenge and European Trials

Seven Under 11 athletes with their parents made the long trip to Sefton Park, Liverpool, where misty skies and freezing conditions greeted our runners where the ground in many parts was frozen.

The Under 11 boys and girls race over 1.9k was a combined race. In the girls race Kezia Beeton was competing in her first major race since recently joining our club. She ran a strong race to place 7th in 7 mins 41 secs, and that time in previous years would have placed in the top 3, such is the growing standard of Under 11 running these days. Kezia was just 20 seconds behind the winner from Liverpool Harriers. Behind Kezia were Larna Morgan 18th and Holly Hudson (Year 5) 21st who ran the whole race together. Molly Matheron was also with these two but took a tumble and although managed to get to her feet, she was unable to finish. Praise must go to Year 5 Molly Wain who placed 57th from nearly 100 starters.

In the boys race Sid Cody really rose to the big occasion and placed 14th from 80 starters. Sid has rapidly improved this year and that was proved as he had placed 42nd at Cardiff in these series of races back in January. Dylon White started out and was close to Sid until he found himself pushed to ground and was unable to continue.

The youngsters enjoyed their trip to the North West and it was a shame the rest of this talented squad were unable to compete as the entry condition stated Under 11 on race day, whereas the Start Fitness Met League's is Under 11 as at 1/09/16. They now all look forward to travelling to Cardiff in January, but in between that there are two Start Fitness Met League races to negotiate, where both boys and girls hold big leads.

I must hugely thank the parents for transporting the youngsters to Liverpool - some stayed overnight. All in all a vey good weekend indeed.
