European CC Trials, Liverpool

Update: on Tuesday Jess Sparke was named in a strong GB U23 Women's team to compete in the European CC Championships.

A number of our athletes featured in the European CC Trials race at Liverpool on Saturday. 21-year old Jess Sparke ran the best race of her career to date to finish a marvellous 3rd overall in the Senior Women/U23 Women's race, which apparently leaves her with the option of running either for the Seniors or the U23s in the European CC Championships in Dublin on 13th December.

The Senior Women/U23 Women's 8.1K event - over muddy terrain - was won by ex-European CC champion Hayley Yelling in 26.26, with Scotland's Freya Murray runner-up in 26.37 and Jess Sparke 3rd in 26.53.

9th overall was Felicity Milton in 27.35. Jess's twin Kat Sparke was 29th (9th U23) in 28.40 and Linzi Snow 32nd (10th U23). Kav Solder was 115th of 157 finishers.

In the Senior Men's 9.8K event, won by Mike Skinner in 28.36, our Matt Gunby was a good 60th (21st U23) in 30.53, and Matt Barnes-Smith 115th after 2 week's of illness and a late decision to race having booked his hotel room weeks previously.

In the U20 Men's 6.7K event won by Richard Goodman in 19.39, Alex Cornwell finished 72nd in 21.58.
