Aviva Indoor Grand Prix

WGwEL athletes were in international action at Birmingham's NIA at the Aviva Grand Prix on Saturday. New member Nick Leavey took the headlines of the Woodford athletes in action with a significant personal best over 400m, as he took the national race in 46.60 secs

Nick's victory was an absolute personal best, indoor or out by 0.52 secs and moves him up to 9th on this season's European lists. It should see the Brunel University post graduate student who is coached by Woodford's Ayo Falola gain selection for the Turin European Indoor Championships. In the women's 60m Joice Maduaka and Elaine O'Neil recorded 7.37 secs and 7.38 secs respectively in their heats - another new personal best for Elaine. In the final both were slightly slower as each recorded 7.40secs with Joice 7th and Elaine 8th. In the 60mH, Olympic finalist Sarah Claxton just edged out domestic rival and training partner Gemma Bennett to place 4th in 8.12 secs.

In the field Woodford's US international hih jumper Jamie Nieto cleared a season's best of  2.23m, whilst on the track, HCA member Simeon Williamson showed sparkling form to take the 60m in a personal best of 6.53 secs to rank 2nd in Europe this season.
