Team Manager(s) needed!

The Young Athletes section is taking part in the Eastern Young Athletes' League this season,which begins on April 13th. Unfortunately we have no team managers for the under 17 boys' and girls' teams. Colin Wint has filled this post for some years, but is standing down owing to pressure of work. The league consists of 5 matches, approximately one per month. The venues and dates are on the website. The coaches would sort out the teams with the manager(s) contacting the athletes and organising the team on the day. There would be plenty of support from the other managers (Helen Finch and Wendy Fuhr) as well as from the YA coaches. If anyone feels that they could help out could they contact Helen Finch or Jean Burgess for more information ASAP.

THIS IS A DESPERATE SITUATION !!!

New club photographer/s required

ken and cameraKen Bray will be 85 next birthday and has been taking club photographs since 1950! Yes - over 60 years. But the club now requires a replacement - or replacements!

Within the local press well over 1000 must have been used and, at times, they would have been seen on the pages of Athletics Weekly and other sports publications.

Message from the new President


Message from our new President, David Hollingworth

presdent with museum wsI am extremely honoured to have been elected as President of the Club. We are a fantastic well run, well supported and high achieving club. In my other role as Club Secretary, you may have read in my annual review that despite the undoubted highs of the year, we do face a number of challenges as a club and in this respect, I have indicated a few of my aspirations for the forthcoming year:

1. That our teams continue to perform to the best of their abilities in all events and across all age groups. To help us do this I hope that all athletes and their coaches will prioritise competing for the club’s teams as often as they can.

2. To increase our “volunteer base”. We already have a tremendous group of people coaching, officiating and running the club, but there is a lot more that we would like to do if we had the resources. We have had a few new volunteers in the last 12 months and I hope this trend will continue.

3. To see increased use of the clubhouse for social events. The “Evergreens” already put on a varied social programme, but we really could make more use of the clubhouse, which is a facility we are very lucky to have. I would encourage anyone with any ideas for social/fundraising events to approach anyone on committee and we will be delighted to welcome all new ideas.

I very much look forward to the next 12 months and supporting the club where I can.

100 Years of WGAC Museum

Members visiting the cluhouse will have seen the display cabinet designed by John Baker being erected in the new clubhouse extension.

WGEL Runners: beginners' groups

Beginners running/jogging session for mixed abilities: goal setting (how to set and use personal goals); how to warm up and cool down; and correct stretching for running.

 

Times: Tuesday 6-7pm, Saturday 9-10am, Sunday 9-10am. Training groups forbeginners running/jogging session for mixed abilities.
