Obituaries: Barbara Wilshire; Don Ochiltree

The club is very sad to announce the passing of Mrs Barbara Wilsher who died in her sleep on Sunday 3rd April.

Barbara was made a Vice President of WGAC in recognition of her very valuable contribution to the activities of the club. For many years she would type the results of our home fixtures. They were always complete before our opponensts left Ashton Playing Fields. She was always willing to assist in very significant way with the organisation of the club's extensive social programme. Her husband Ted is a Life Member and former President and our sympathies go out to him at this difficult time.

Don Ochiltree, a middle and long distance runner, also passed away recently. He was a most loyal supporter of club teams, mainly on the road and on the country. Don's best time for the marathon was achieved as an M45 in the Canvey Island event in 1982 with a very respectable 2 hours 42 minutes and 48 seconds.

There will also be a Tri Cast running at the clubhouse bar from tonight - try to forecast 1st, 2nd and 3rd in race 7 - £100 to the winner.

Please try and support this event for the club. It is just £6 per head entry. Bring your own nibbles and the bar will be open.

Content editor(s) needed

We are in need of, ideally, a couple of additional content editors for the website.

The role would involve receiving requests from team managers, particularly, plus other club officials, to add whatever they need to the website. Race reports, announcements, etc.

The site is currently based on the "Joomla" content management tool. It is relatively easy to use once you have been shown how.

Ideally, too, a content editor is able to make minor corrections to the content that is submitted - e.g. adding commas, making minor corrections, etc. So a reasonable standard of English is required.

Ideally, too, a content editor can respond fairly rapidly to a request - e.g. within 24 hours.

Adding photos to articles is another potential task - if you can use a standard tool to crop photos to the required size, it is easy to add them to articles.

If you have regular access to a PC and you are interested in helping the club out in this way, please email me: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Thank you.
