It is with great sadness that we have to report that Ayo Falola, who had been battling cancer for a number of years, passed away peacefully last night.Ayo competing

Ayo was a Life Member of Woodford Green, a former sprinter, and more recently a coach to a number of successful British athletes.

Our thoughts at this time are with Ayo's wife Sarah and their three sons.

Athletics Weekly reports on the many superb tributes that have been paid to Ayo.

New Met League sponsor

There was a piece of very good news today from the Metropolitan Cross Country League, the competition which has long been a focal point of the club's winter activities. With the size of the fields having grown substantially in recent years, and around 700 athletes competing in each fixture, the need and opportunity for sponsorship has become greater.

At the end of last season, the agreement with the previous sponsor, Active Training World, ended as ATW wished to move into other areas. A replacement has now been found, however, in the shape of Start Fitness. An initial one-year agreement has been put in place under which Start Fitness will cover the cost of race numbers and race tape, and fund the ongoing prize scheme.

As of 3rd August, league club members can also benefit from discounts when making online purchases from Start Fitness and from More Mile. Enter: MetXCSF10 at the checkout for 10% off. Enter MetXC at the checkout for 30% off.

The League will now be officially known as the Start Fitness Metropolitan Cross Country League and the short version of the Start Fitness Met League.

If the sponsors feel that they have got value for money, they will continue to sponsor the league.
